The Istanbul trip was one of the most exciting in my life. Thanks to the matriarchs of  “Mattarello (A)way” we were chosen to capture on film the unique and irreplicable dinners exchanges with local families.

A brilliant idea by any standards, food is one of the best ways to get to know other people, their cultures, and their traditions. Simply put: food connects people.  But let’s get back to our trip.  We had the occasion to visit Istanbul, the former Costantinopole, a fascinating city and the cradle of many ancient cultures and traditions.
The city has more than 20 million inhabitants and is also composed of small islands, in some of them, residents only move about on foot, by bike or even by carriage! Is is quite the site to behold. The city is a melting mot of various cultures and can be parceled into 4 districts: the Muslim district, the Christian district, Oriental and those with no religious affiliation. Each neighborhood is a micro diaspora, each with their own architectural style and traditional foods. As such, Istanbul is characterized by a varied cuisine, borrowing from a bounty of indigenous products combined with a diverse cultural influences.  Though replete with fine-dining opportunities, no visitor should leave without experiencing Istanbul’s incredible street food offerings: like a delicious kebab with a fragrant Turkish coffee. 
I personally prefer to eat in local restaurants where I can experience the real local flavors. Beyond the food, the Arabic architecture on display throughout the whole city is a feast for the eyes. Put Istanbul at the top of your travel list and be sure to pack an  open mind.  This will come in handy as you taste different foods,observe new traditions, and behold a different structure of life If you pay attention and know how to look, you’ll see that you have arrived in one of the most beguiling cities in the world.
